1. How will residents get in/out? - Each home will get two free fobs. As we approach the gates coming home we wind the window down and hold the fob near the reader and the gate will open. When we leave the site no fob is needed, the gates will open automatically as you approach them.

2. When will this happen? - The plan is, when gates are first installed in a few months, they will only be operational during office hours to give people a chance to try them out and get used to them with help at hand.

3. How will other visitors/carers/delivery drivers get in/out? - They drive up to the gates, wind down their window and press the button that corresponds with your road name and number. As soon as they do that, your phone will ring and you can talk to them and let them in by pressing a button on your phone. You can decide which phone it rings, You can even have it set up to automatically try other numbers if you don’t answer. There’s also an option to buzz the office.

4. What happens if there’s a power cut? - A battery backup system will automatically open the gates if power fails and they will remain open until power is restored.

5. What happens when a vehicle is waiting at the gate to get in but no-one is answering? - In the event that a delivery driver or visitor cannot reach a resident on the intercom, there will be a button for them to contact the office to get buzzed in. Outside of hours the office button can be set to call the out-of-hours mobile.

6. How will emergency vehicles get in? - Emergency services have a well-established way to override the system to automatically open any gate for emergency vehicles.

7. If there are a few cars waiting to get in, won’t that block Lower Dunton Road? - No, because the gates won’t be right at the entrance, they will be further up Main Drive.

8. Will the noise of the gates annoy people living nearby? - The gates will not interfere with homes at all. These are specially designed for residential estates and are very quiet in operation. The motors are hydraulic so have no internal gears that cause noise.

9. What happens if there’s a mechanical failure and the gates jam? - The gates are 100% duty cycle meaning they can be operated continuously without failure. Additionally, they have manual release locks fitted to the motors, this will allow the gates to be released from the motors and the gates to be moved to the open position. So yes, there is a way for staff to override in the event of a failure.
