Before any of this ground work in Mansted took place, we told the company that previous owners had planned to put new homes on Manstead Close but pulled out because of land‑contamination concerns that made the ground unstable. Regency were told this, but went ahead regardless.

I then contacted Basildon Environmental Planning. They were extremely helpful and took real interest in what we reported. They identified the possibility of contamination issues and wrote to Regency reminding them of their obligation to carry out checks. When we asked Regency what the outcome of those checks was, the only reply we received was a short line saying the council had contacted them and they would “work with you”. No details were provided.

Fast forward to now: since the excavation and installation of concrete bases, serious ground movement has started to appear nearby. Gaps are opening in the soil, patio tiles are cracking, and even the macerator building has started to show cracks. Naturally, we are worried about stability becoming a danger to the properties themselves. Ground movement, collapsing soil and damaged patios are all safety hazards, so we have gone back to Environmental Planning and asked them to look at this urgently.
