We had a trial of another Sunday lunchtime event in the club and everyone loved it. The idea is to give people the opportunity to socialise who wouldn't normally come out at night.

The only concern raised was audience chatter. Several guests were disappointed with people chatting especially during quieter songs - which exceeded normal background chatter and affected their enjoyment of the event. The noise issue was largely due to a number of large tables, with around 14 people seated at each. Even with the best will in the world, groups of that size will inevitably generate a fair amount of background chatter.

These afternoons were originally designed to provide a more relaxed, cabaret-style experience, offering a quieter alternative to the lively Saturday evening party nights. To help create this atmosphere, and minimise large-table-chatter, the committee have agreed to trial a cabaret-style seating arrangement at the next Sunday afternoon event. Tables will be arranged in groups of two and four and positioned facing the performer.

We will also introduce discreet table cards at all events politely reminding guests to keep conversations to a respectful level while performers are on stage.
