This morning, committee members met with Basildon and Billericay MP Richard Holden to discuss the mounting pressure from multiple planning applications - and the cumulative damage they could do to our area.

We highlighted the council’s alarming proposal to earmark Lower Dunton Road for up to 1,800 new homes, and the fact that Basildon’s planning officers seem to treat our residents as invisible when it comes to consultation.

Richard was fully supportive. His first action will be to write to the Council, demanding that our residents’ association be formally included in all future consultations.

That said, he reminded us that the current government is aggressively pushing housebuilding in this region so stopping these developments will be almost impossible. But Richard agreed: the more pressure we apply, the harder it becomes for the Council to ignore us.
